The smartphone will arrive on shelves in the coming weeks

Today, Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry has made a new device powered by the Blackberry 7.1 operating system official, namely the BlackBerry 9720, a QWERTY-enabled device that packs a 2.8-inch touchscreen display.

The mobile phone is expected to become available for purchase in the coming weeks through retailers and carriers in Asia, EMEA and Latin America.

The new device sports an 806 MHz Tavor MG1 processor inside, 512 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Furthermore, it sports a 1450mAh removable battery capable of delivering up to 7 hours of talk time, or 18 days of standby time.

The new BlackBerry 9720 was also announced with a 5-megapixel EDOF (Extended Depth of Field) photo snapper with flash and image stabilization.

The specifications list of the phone also includes WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth, built-in GPS receiver, Proximity sensor, and Ambient light sensor.

The device will land on the market in a variety of vibrant colors, featuring a trackpad for easy navigation, BBM, Built-in FM Radio, Multicast, and access to a wide range of applications and games available for download through the BlackBerry World.

“The BlackBerry 9720 smartphone gives you all the essentials of the BlackBerry smartphone experience to support a communications centric lifestyle,” Carlo Chiarello, executive vice president for products at BlackBerry, said.

“It has the best keyboard and functionality for BBM, as well as an updated BlackBerry 7 OS that adds many enhancements. It’s perfect for customers upgrading from a feature phone or entry-level Android or Windows Phone device, as well as existing BlackBerry smartphone customers, that want a richer experience and jump up in style and performance."

The handset will be accompanied by a variety of accessories, including cases, carrying solutions, chargers and audio peripherals, BlackBerry announced. No specific info on the smartphone’s pricing has been provided as of now.
