While Airtel, Reliance and Vodafone have just unveiled the upcoming availability of BlackBerry Bold, Tata Teleservices, India's fourth largest mobile carrier, has announced the release of BlackBerry 8830 World  Edition. Of course, the 8830 is not as new as the Bold, but since Tata is a CDMA-only carrier and the Bold is a GSM / HSDPA handset, the carrier can't make the smartphone available to its customers. Thus, in order to still come up with something new, Tata choose to bring the 8830 World Edition.

Measuring 114 x 66 x 14 millimeters, BlackBerry 8830 World Edition features: CDMA2000 1x EV-DO connectivity, dual-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 MHz) for national and international roaming, GPS and BlackBerry Maps, a 320 x 240 pixel TFT display, a full QWERTY keyboard, Web browser, advanced email capabilities, organizer, document viewer, Media player, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, expandable memory and so on.

Talking about the new BlackBerry, Mr. Anil Sardana, managing director at Tata Teleservices, stated, "We take immense pride in launching the much-awaited BlackBerry solution. The BlackBerry smartphone has become a way of life – an office on the move for corporate executives and business professionals – and its many user-friendly features make it truly desirable. The

Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO of Research In Motion, added, "We are pleased to bring the BlackBerry solution to Tata Indicom customers. The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition is an exceptional smartphone that will win customers with its unique blend of functionality, usability and style."

Tata has not announced yet when the 8830 will become available to its customers, nor at what price. Anyway, the smartphone will probably be on sale before the end of September, coming with a standard voice plan, as well as three data service options: Gold, Platinum and Titanium.
