RIM's upcoming platform flavor is nowhere near what it should be

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is gearing up for the release of a new flavor of its BlackBerry mobile operating system, namely BlackBerry 10 (known as BBX until a few weeks ago), and some more info on it has just emerged.

Apparently, the upcoming platform release will not be able to deliver what RIM wanted us to believe in its latest announcements; a recent article on BGR unveils.

The news site claims that an inside source has unveiled a variety of details on how RIM is managing the upcoming release, and that things don’t look encouraging at all.

The handset vendor is said to have deliberately delayed the release of this OS flavor by several months, and that the reasons they invoked for this are not real at all.

Recently, RIM said that they have decided to delay the release of BlackBerry10 devices as they are waiting for a specific piece of technology, but BGR’s source claims that this is not true.

Apparently, the company was not able to make the upcoming BlackBerry 10 platform work as it should, and decided to push its release back to a time when things should be put in order.

”RIM is simply pushing this out as long as they can for one reason, they don’t have a working product yet,” the aforementioned source reportedly stated.

The platform might not prove competitive at all when compared to products available on the market today. In fact, applications and services are said to be working much better on the older devices than they do on the BlackBerry 10 platform at the moment.

At the same time, the OS is said to be identical with the PlayBook 2.0 OS platform that was made available in a beta form for testing.

If all these prove at least close to reality, RIM would have a lot to lose. The company’s devices are currently lagging behind what Android and iOS have to offer, which means that a future OS release should bring cutting edge enhancements to compete with them. Apparently, it might not yet be able to do so.
