Last month, before the botched BBM for iOS and Android release, BlackBerry announced that it would bring the 10.2 OS update in the fall. Well, it appears that the promised upgrade will arrive on time, but only for some BlackBerry users.

According to the Canadian company, BlackBerry OS 10.2 is expected to start rolling out in the following regions, but keep in mind that availability may vary by carrier:

- Africa: Starting this week; - Asia Pacific: Starting this week; - Canada: Starting this week; - Europe: Starting this week; - Latin America: Starting in November; - Middle East: Starting this week; - US: Starting this winter.

Given BlackBerry 10’s low market share in the United States, it looks like the Canadian company has decided to leave it the last.

BlackBerry fans in the US will probably be disappointed by the handset maker’s decision, but that was taken based on the latest official statements coming from various major carriers that don’t seem to want to bring BlackBerry 10 devices to their customers.

Maybe demand for BlackBerry 10 handsets is so low in the United States that carriers are afraid to add them to their portfolios.

Anyway, those lucky to be living in one of the regions where BlackBerry plans to start the rollout of OS 10.2 update this week should look for the alert in the notifications section of the BlackBerry Hub.

In addition, BlackBerry 10 users can also manually check for availability by heading to System Settings menu and selecting Software Updates.

Obviously, it’s recommended to make a backup of your BlackBerry 10 smartphone before attempting to download and install the 10.2 OS update.

Last but not least, BlackBerry has confirmed that not all carriers will be releasing this update, so you might want to check with your operator if you do not receive it in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.

[Update]: BlackBerry 10.2 OS is already available in Canada and most Europeans country (UK included).
