The new Gears of War video game that Black Tusk is working on at the moment for Microsoft has only been in development for about 100 days, according to one of the leading developers working on the project at the studio.

Rod Fergusson, who is the manager for the entire game development process, is quoted by IGN as saying that his team has been trying out to define the core ideas that will dominate the experience, while also trying to decide how to link the new title with the rest of the series.

The game creator says that he is aiming to make a seamless transition that fans will appreciate, while also using all the other media that has been linked to the franchise.

Rod Fergusson adds, “Yes, as best we can. I believe fun is greater than canon. That's not to say I'm going out of my way to destroy canon, but if I get to a situation that may invalidate a comic book or a book, I'm going to make that fun decision.”

Microsoft has acquired the rights to the entire Gears of War franchise from Epic Games and has announced that Black Tusk will create a new video game that will be launched exclusively for the Xbox One home console.

When the sale took place, Tim Sweeney, the leader of the studio, explained that the move was right for both companies and for the fan base because it meant that more titles in the series would be launched, while Epic had the space to try and create a new intellectual property.

Black Tusk and Microsoft have offered no information about the new Gears of War title, but presumably, they will still use the core third-person shooter structure of the franchise.

The company might introduce a new cast of characters to replace Marcus Fenix and his buddies.

The studio has also said that the extra power available on the Xbox One will allow them to create a more complex universe for players to explore, while boosting the quality of the graphics associated with Gears of War.

The series has been very successful on the Xbox 360 and Microsoft probably hopes that it can also boost sales of its next-gen console.

The price of the device will be reduced to 399 dollars or Euro in early June as the Kinect motion tracking console is dropped from the retail package.
