By now, we're all quite used to beverages that come in all sorts of bottles and colors. Then again, chances are that there aren't all that many people in this world who not only know that black spring water actually exists, but have also had the chance to give it a try.

Before you check your calendars to make sure that today isn't April 1, it must be said that, as surprising as this may sound, black spring water really and truly exists. Besides, those familiar with it claim that it's healthier than regular water.

Truth be told, it looks nothing short of bizarre. Some might even be tempted to label it as disgusting. Still, seeing how this spring water launched back in 2012 and is still around, it's safe to assume that it's not without a fairly impressive fanbase.

In fact, Oddity Central tells us that it is currently being promoted by Albie and Chris Manzo, the sons of Carolina Manzo, one of the stars of Real Housewives of New Jersey. Like the company marketing this water, Albie and Chris Manzo say that the black potion is healthier than regular water.

How can black water be healthy?

The folks now trying to make a few bucks marketing the odd black spring water, advertised as BLK, say that its color is due to the fact that it contains fulvic acid. This compound is naturally occurring and many believe that it has therapeutic properties.

In fact, the people behind BLK argue that this compound that is present in abundance in their black spring water is often used in alternative therapies and serves to treat all sorts of conditions. In fact, they claim that this is precisely why they saw fit to add it to water.

By the looks of it, BLK owes its peculiar color to this compound that is added to it to make it healthier. Thus, specialists with the company explain that the fulvic acid is what turns the spring water black simply by reacting to it.

Although it looks like soda, this odd-looking black spring water does not pack any sugars, carbohydrates or even calories, for that matter. On the contrary, word has it that it is pretty much the healthiest beverage anyone could ever hope for.

“BLK is powerful electrolytes and a high pH. BLK is serious hydration. BLK is a delicious beverage without any sugar, carbs, or calories. BLK is here and it will defy expectations,” the black water's makers explain in a statement.

Who the heck made this black water?

It is understood that BLK is the brainchild of two sisters by the name of Jacqueline and Louise Wilkie, who created it back in 2008. The sisters reportedly got the idea to add fulvic acid to water after using this compound to save the life of their mother, who was dying from cancer.

It's important to note that, although many believe that fulvic acid can help rid the body of all sorts of compounds bound to cause health trouble in the long run, actual science experiments are yet to confirm that this is in fact the case.
