Activision has just secured the rights to the blackops2.com domain name, fueling rumors that a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 could be in the works.

Before the massively successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 shooter that was released last year, the previous installment in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops, reigned supreme.

Shortly before announcing that game, Activision bought the blackops.com domain name, as well as those up to blackops6. Unfortunately for the company, the blackops2.com name was already taken before it could register it.

Now, after quite some time, the company has finally managed to secure the rights to the name, a fact that fueled the rumor fire concerning a possible sequel to Black Ops called, what else, Black Ops 2.

As of yet, Activision hasn’t commented on these rumors, but you can bet that its internal studios, including Black Ops 1 developer Treyarch, are working hard on a new Call of Duty game.
