One of the developers working on the Black Mesa project clarifies that his team is not using the Source 2 engine on the Half-Life remake despite the fact that many fans are hoping that the new technology will be first shown via the title.

On the official forums of the project, he explains that, “We are NOT on Source 2. It wouldn't make sense for a company to license tech they haven't proven yet with a released title to a mod team. Our visuial however, WILL be improved.”

The developer says that they would like to get a Source 2 license from the team at Valve, but that remaking all the content using the new technology might mean a big wait for fans of the game.

Black Mesa will be soon launched via the Steam digital distribution service for a low price with a variety of improved features.
