The developers don't know when it's going to be ready

Black Mesa is a total conversion of the original Half-Life with the Source 2 engine that's been in works for years. Now, the developers are pushing their work into Early Access, and it looks like they are also targeting the Linux platform as well.

Black Mesa is what gamers called "vapourware," meaning a product that looks very good and promises very high standards, but it never arrives. The best case scenario is that it eventually lands, but it's been so long since the official announcement that no one really cares.

The Black Mesa project promised to rework the entire Half-Life game with the new technologies available right now, through the Source engine from Valve. The makers of this mod initially said that it's going to be free, and they released a working version last year that covered about a third of the game. Now, they are trying to finish the work through Early Access and sell their work there.

How advanced is Black Mesa?

"Black Mesa is a re-envisioning of Valve Software's seminal classic Half-Life. Gordon Freeman and his unforgettable journey through the Black Mesa Research Facility have been lovingly re-created to capture the full spirit of the original game, without 1998’s graphical limitations. This is Half-Life the way it was meant to be played! Expect tremendously detailed environments, old-school tough-as-nails combat, and a gripping story with memorable characters," reads the synopsis on Steam.

The team just released patch version 0.0.1, so you know that they are going to take their time. One of the developers answered a question on Reddit regarding the Linux version and they said it's planned, but nowhere near ready. At least we know that it's in the works, but it could take months until we'll see a proper release of this remake, let alone a Linux version.
