Black Lab Software Inc., the company behind the well-known Black Lab Linux computer operating system, had the pleasure of informing Softpedia about the release of its Black Lab Sphere mini computer, a unique, one of a kind Linux-powered desktop PC that runs Black Lab Professional Linux 6.5.

Black Lab Sphere turns out to be more than just a mini PC, as it boasts a dual-core Intel Core i5 4200U processor running at 1.6 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.6 GHz Intel HD Graphics 4400 GPU. It offers 16GB of RAM and a 500GB 2.5-inch SATA 6.0Gb/s hard disk drive (HDD). Replacing the HDD with a SSD might be possible.

This system can handle things such as general desktop computing, as well as complex data analysis, code compilations and can even act as a small business server, web server or even a cluster node.”

Among other specifications of Black Lab Sphere, we can mention HDMI port, Ethernet port, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 1 mSATA 6.0 Gb/s slot, 4-in-1 memory card reader (MMC/SD/SDHC/SDXC), 3 USB 2.0 ports, 4 USB 3.0 ports, and a Microsoft DirectX 11.1 compatible video card. The Black Lab HPC Server 6.5 operating system is also supported.

The price of the Black Lab Sphere is $699 (approximately €658 or ₤467). The PC is available for purchase right now and it will ship worldwide. For $844 (€800 / ₤564) you can purchase Black Lab Sphere with a 3-year warranty. For $869 (€820 / ₤580) Black Lab Software will also send a 23-inch HDMI monitor, and for $1008 (€950 / ₤673) you will get the monitor and 3-year warranty.
