Black Lab Software has had the great pleasure of informing us earlier today, June 1, about the immediate availability for download of the fourth service release (SR) of the Black Lab Enterprise, Education and Forensics Desktop 6 distributions.

Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6 SR4 is the fourth maintenance release of the Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6.0 operating system, a long-term supported version for enterprise customers, which receives software updates, as well as the latest security patches until year 2020.

"Today we are announcing the availability of Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6 SR4. Black Lab Enterprise Desktop is a distribution that is commercially supported and targeted at small to medium sized desktops for businesses or home office users," says Robert Dohnert.

Powered by Linux kernel 3.16.0-38 and based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system, Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6 SR4 uses the KDE 4.14.2 and MATE 1.8.2 desktop environments, the latest being comparable with the user interface of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Among the updated package in Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6 SR4, we can mention GCC 4.9.2, Mozilla Firefox 38, Mozilla Thunderbird 31.7, Skype 4.3, and LibreOffice 4.3. The distribution also boasts unique apps like Citrix Receiver, FocusWriter, Timeshift, ScudCloud, and Backup Utility.

Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6 SR4 includes all the necessary software to support a wide range of network-attached storage (NAS) and other enterprise-capable devices. All the included software packages were updated to their latest version available as of May 31, 2015, and they're synchronized to the upstream Debian 8.0 (Jessie) repository.

Black Lab Enterprise Desktop 6 can be purchased from the Black Lab Software website. A single license will cost you $75 (€68), and you'll receive 12 months of support. Two licenses cost $136 (€124), and if you buy between 3 and 10 licenses, you will have to pay $500 (€456), and between 11 and 20 licenses - $950 (€866).
