Black Eyed Peas rapper apl.de.ap, real name Allan Pineda Lindo, Jr., is legally blind. He’s been diagnosed with the disease nystagmus, which oftentimes makes his vision so blurry he can’t see anything, it has emerged.

Confirmation of this seems to have come from the rapper himself, who told People magazine about the diagnosis, BoomBox reports.

Nevertheless, the good news is that apl.de.ap boasts of having overcome the condition and now being able to get up on the stage with his fellow BEP bandmates even if he can’t see that well.

“The 36-year-old rapper, born Allan Pineda Lindo, Jr., recently revealed to People Magazine that he is legally blind and was diagnosed with the rare disease nystagmus, a challenging obstacle which he claims to have overcome,” BoomBox writes.

As any search online will easily show, the condition makes the eye move involuntarily. Many blind people with nystagmus are forced to wear glasses because of this.

“The condition, which involuntarily makes the eye move, has been as difficult as one would expect given the group’s demanding physical schedule, but apl claims he’s figured out a way to manage the affliction,” BoomBox writes.

As the rapper puts it, he’s learned to deal with things without his eyesight, and this also includes performing on the band’s grueling live dates.

“I doubted myself for a long time... I’m comfortable not using my vision. I weave around my problems,” apl.de.ap tells people, as cited by the aforementioned publication.

After a brief stint apart pursuing separate projects, the Black Eyed Peas have confirmed their status as a power group, selling over 11 million copies of their album “The E.N.D.,” which came out in 2009.

Towards the end of that same year, the band also hit the road with the “The E.N.D. World Tour,” which turned out to be a smashing hit – it wrapped up in November 2010.

The Black Eyed Peas will be seen next performing live at the Super Bowl during the halftime, says the same report.
