PLAYSTATION 2

Black & Bruised Unlockables (PS2)

- Fight as everyone

By: Andrei Dumitrescu, Games Editor

Black & Bruised is an over-the-top arcade style boxing video game that was developed by Digital Fiction for publisher Majesco. It was initially released in 2003 for the Xbox gaming console from Microsoft and for the Sony created PlayStation 2. The game is classified as being an action title and it is played from a third person perspective.

The game tries to combine some wacky cartoon humor with a lot of thumb twitching boxing action, while its cartoonish look and feel combines humor and strategy for mature audiences. There are some significant differences between the individual boxing characters, therefore looks are just as important a feature as their fighting styles. There are some really detailed and humorous facial animations that are used to show the boxer’s mood as well as the way he reacts to each of the punches the opponents land on him. As the fighter gets pounded during the game his face changes to reflect the injuries that he sustains.

Black & Bruised takes full advantage of proportional analog controls and buttons to give the players a puppeteer-like sense of control over their boxer. For example when pressing the punch button, the pressure, speed and depth of the press are translated into the boxer's punch speed, power and completion. These feelings are visually enhanced by the use of skeletal motion and skin morphing technologies.
