High-tech fans have reasons to be happy about the Japanese Kensey robot invention, which offers a whole new level of interactivity.
The weird robot resembles the Bizzaro very much, a fictional character created by Otto Binder and the artist George Papp. It first appeared in the Superboy Tv series in the late 50s.
With the latest Hollywood trend of importing the ultimate technology into the blockbusters, it probably won't be long until Kensey is going to have his own part in some "Star Wars" reloaded series.
As for the technical support, the robot is probably the first machine which can display human emotions. A real step forward for the high-tech industry, I say.
The human-like machine features a soft silicon face mask, which looks pretty real. It also has 19 movable parts that make him capable of expressing up to three dozen facial expressions in reactions to different word associations.
In fact, he is capable of expressing 36 different facial expressions, taken from an updated base of 500.000 words. He can draw from an online database of half a million words at the moment, and he is still "learning" new expressions every day, since the database itself is self-updating.
According to a recent Reuters article, whenever he hears the word "Bomb" Kensey frowns, and every time "sushi" is mentioned, he smiles happily, but he can also look disgusted when you bring the word "president"; so he is practically like any one of us.
I just wonder how he will look like in a couple of years, as rumor has it that the Japanese are thinking about inserting some extra chips in his head.
But the best part of the Reuters article is the end: "With Japan's population expected to slide by around a quarter by 2050, and immigration a sensitive issue, some laboratories have developed humanoid robots that can work as maids."
I don't want to scare you but has anybody heard about "The Terminator"?
