This Monday morning, a peculiar blob-like creature was found lying on a beach in Australia. The animal, a photo of which is available next to this article, is yet to be identified by wildlife experts.

Information shared with the public says that the creature was first spotted by a woman who not only took a photo of it and posted it on Twitter, but who also contacted local media and told them about her find.

By the looks of it, the woman, identified as Twitter user Debbie Higgs (@Debz73), found the bizarre marine mammal while walking around on a beach in Mudjimba, a suburb of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

“Check this out from Mudjimba sunshinecoast beach this morning, what is it?” Debbie Higgs wrote in a message accompanying a photo of the animal. “What is this? A red blob was found at Mudjimba this morning,” she added in another post.

The woman maintains that, at the time she first set eyes on it, the animal was very much alive. In fact, she claims that, when she tried to poke it, it reacted to her touch by moving around a bit. However, the creature eventually died.

“I've never seen anything like it. I gave it a poke and it wriggled a bit,” the woman said in a statement. “It's not a turtle as it hasn't got any legs. It's bright red,” she went on to explain.

Apparently, Debbie Higgs was so fascinated by the red, blob-like marine creature that, rather than abandoning its body on the beach and letting wildlife researchers deal with it, she grabbed a towel, wrapped the animal in it, and brought it home with her.

Since the red blob was only discovered a few hours ago, experts have not yet had the chance to closely examine its anatomy. Hence, they cannot say for sure what it might be, and are clueless about how and why it washed ashore, the Sunshine Coast Daily informs.

Unless it's a seriously freaky alien come from outer space to warn us about an upcoming galactic battle or whatnot, chances are that it's a sea slug, a spokesperson for the Queensland Museum told the press in an interview concerning this find.

As the spokesperson put it, “It's hard to pinpoint without examining it and knowing the size.” Furthermore, “Their [the experts'] nearest guesses, based on color and the side 'frills' is that it might be a Spanish Dancer sea slug.”

Mind you, if this creature does in fact turn out to be a weird alien species from outer space, you can be sure that you will learn all about it here.
