Alcatel is a company best known for its entry-level smartphones, but the device maker has some tablets in its portfolio.

Now, as Tablette-Tactile points out, the company has unveiled a new tablet on its website, one which should be positioned in the entry-level or ultra low-cost spectrum.

The Pixi 8 is a tablet that should be priced around €100 / $132 and comes with quite a puzzling characteristic.

In the display department, the Pixi brings an 8-inch screen that boasts a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. The display isn’t an IPS, so the viewing angles won’t be the best.

The form factor appears to be quite reminiscent of the iPad mini, but this is not e peculiarity, since a lot of low-cost device makers borrow design cues from Apple’s super popular product.

Things get wired in the processor department, where Alcatel apparently has bundled a tri-core processor; yes, you read that right, clocked at 1.2GHz. The slate is capable of running Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

This is aspect proves to be quite bizarre. We do know of octa-core, dual-core, quad-core CPUs, but a triple-core processor seems something quite akin to myth. The company has been contacted to act for clarifications.

Anyway, other specifications include optional Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two cameras (0.3MP in front, and 2MP on the back), microSD card and microUSB.

Alcatel will offer the tablet with either 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage or 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The Pixi 8 should make an appearance on the market soon enough.
