A free tool available via the Microsoft Download Center is designed to simplify the troubleshooting process for BizTalk Server.
Some IT professionals are bound to already be familiar with the Biztalk Terminator even before it went live on the Microsoft Download Center, when they had to use the Terminator ClickOnce Deployment to get the tool.
IT pros managing BizTalk can turn to Terminator in order to resolve some of the most common problems they come across.
The Redmond company packed a number of scripts inside BizTalk Terminator, intended to fix issues that admins come across.
“Replaces terminate.vbs with more functionality including the ability to suspend, resume and terminate by date range. Powershell script functionality provided for performance tuning. Integration with mbvcleanupscripts.xml from the messagebox viewer utility,” Microsoft explained.
The software giant recommends that administrators make sure they’re running the latest version of BizTalk Terminator.
In this regard, Microsoft even moved to time-bomb the tool, in an effort to force IT pros to upgrade to the most recent iteration as soon as it comes out. Since BizTalk Terminator is set up to deal with database issues even though direct changes it’s always a good idea for admins to keep it up to date.
“Biztalk has been in service for several years. Many problems have been resolved by the Biztalk Product group and CSS Engineers with SQL and WMI scripts. Terminator was created to accomplish 5 primary objectives:
• A centralized repository for these scripts
• A way for users to easily execute these scripts
• A mechanism to auto-update these scripts
• MBV Integration which allows users to easily resolve common BizTalk database integrity issues identified by the BizTalk MessageBoxViewer tool
• An automated way to improve performance on a Biztalk Group by tuning with standard tunings that are known to improve Biztalk Performance,” Microsoft said.
