While all Windows 8 copies are equipped with the Windows Defender anti-virus tool by default, it's not Microsoft's security app the one that fully protects adopters of the new operating system.

According to a new round of tests conducted by AV-TEST for the Windows 8 platform and analyzing protection, performance and reliability of 26 different security apps, Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 is the best choice for all users.

While Bitdefender received a score of 17 points, BullGuard's security product was ranked second with 16.5 points, followed by Kaspersky with 16. Windows Defender, Microsoft's own app, got only 11.5 points, but enough to receive the AV-TEST certification.

Fortinet and Symantec managed to snatch the first place in the business security tools tests with 16.5 points, while Microsoft's System Center Endpoint Protection received only 12.5 points.
