Bitdefender 2013 Product Line Released

Bitdefender has released its 2013 generation of products, Antivirus Plus, Internet Security and Total Security, announcing all-round improvements, as well as new features.

The new product manages to catch up with competition in some areas, while in others it leapfrogs to new standards.

Confidential information is kept private while shopping or carrying out financial transactions online through Safepay component. It is a tabbed web browser with bookmark support, specially designed to prevent sensitive details from being compromised.

The chief feature is that it is sandboxed, thus it opens up in an isolated environment, independent of the operating system.

Safepay can be launched individually but it can also start automatically when you navigate to an address it has bookmarked, from any other web browser installed on the system.

Moreover, it can ensure the privacy even when used over insecure WiFi networks as it encrypts Internet communication over unsecured connections.

Parental Control module (not available in Antivirus Plus) has undergone some major changes, and is now equipped with functionality that extends beyond the PC and covers mobile devices as well.

The component is now available through MyBitdefender account, which acts as a management console as well.

As a parent, you can monitor and log activity on Facebook accounts, and this includes comments, messages, wall posts, tags (location/places, photos, videos, events attending, status or comments), privacy settings or number of friends.

On Android devices, the monitoring is extended to location, calls, messages, services and settings. Remote geo-location is achieved through the phone’s built-in GPS system, wireless networks in range, or based on information from the mobile network.

The protection offered by Total Security 2013 extends beyond the digital realm as it can remotely lock a laptop and wipe its data, in case it is stolen.

This is achieved through Anti-Theft component, available in MyBitdefender online console. Apart from these two actions, it can also locate the device based on the same geo-location technology used with Parental Controls.

Another new component present in all products is USB Immunizer, designed to protect computers and removable storage devices from AutoRun malware. Just like Parental Control and Anti-Theft, it is available as a separate download.

SafeBox, Bitdefender’s secure cloud storage solution, has been improved to support file sharing. The data stored in the cloud is manageable via the online console and can be accessed from any web-connected device. Protection of the files is ensured by encryption algorithms.
