Vuze, a BitTorrent client previously known as Azureus, which is built on Java, has reached version 5.4 and is now available for download.

Vuze is a relatively lightweight BitTorrent client that can be used to download torrents and even acts as a search engine. The developer of this software releases dozens of Beta versions between major upgrades, which means that numerous changes are being made from one iteration to another.

One of the major problems with Vuze is that it uses Java, which means that on some systems it might feel a little slow. This is not a major issue if you have a regular system with mid-range hardware.

"The Vuze Bittorrent Client is an end-to-end software application for all your torrent needs. Although it is a complete bittorrent downloader, the Vuze program maintains a lightweight footprint, doesn't slow your computer down, and quickly downloads torrents. The Vuze torrent downloader makes it easy for you to find torrents online, whether you are downloading torrents from a tracker site, from a friend via magnet links, or anywhere else on the web."

"(Audible drumroll sound) Vuze Bittorrent Client 5.4 has officially launched! (Cue wild cheering and thundering applause) We’ve taken feedback from the Vuze community and used it to make some updates, add in new features and enhance our torrent desktop client for users. This free update will install automatically for existing Vuze users and is included in the download package for all new users," reads the official website.

According to the changelog, the “force start” and “super seeding” options have been added to the create-torrent wizard, the file filter has been added to torrent-options dialog, the minimum/target share ratio setters have been added to column menu and torrent options view, the “SHA1” column to files-view has been implemented, a default save directory is now present and it's used when best guess is enabled and nothing else matches, and file path names can now be entered into the search box to open the torrent.

Also, a new column showing the date of completion of the most recent file has been added, “initial tags” have been implemented to the create-torrent wizard, enabled networks can now be specified in the torrent-options dialog, and an “apply to current” function has been added to tags with the initial-save/move-on-complete set.
