The first beta of the security suite sees light of the Web

2009 is just about to start presenting the security suites from the various vendors around the world. With just a couple of months prior to launching the final product, BitDefender will offer later today a public beta of their system protecting suite, BitDefender Total Security 2010. This is the first beta and from what we learned the second one will be on the 27th, with the final release to be rolled out in July.

BitDefender Total Security is on the verge of dropping today, Wednesday, May 13th, and the first thought that comes to mind about releasing it as a public beta on this supposedly ill-fated date would be that malicious events, be they cyber or real-life related, do not scare the company and do not hinder the product's functionality in any way.

It is built on the previous version of the application (BitDefender Total Security 2009) so be prepared for an impressive amount of modules (eleven to be exact) covering both security instruments, such as antivirus, antispam and firewall, but also parental and privacy control tools, backup and encryption options, the game/laptop mode present in the earlier release as well, home network management, and system tune-up tools (defrag, registry cleaner, duplicate finder, PC cleaning). A novelty to this issue of BitDefender Total Security 2010 is the Vulnerability module, which is bent on providing alerts on the update state of the operating system and some popular products.

As the exclusive images clearly show, the suite has undergone aesthetic changes bringing a cool, inviting, blue interface with options in the right place for even the novices to find with ease. The functionality of the application is split in three, addressing novice users, intermediate ones and the power-users addicted to configuring and setting things up. And for each of the three modes there is a different interface with options and settings fit for every computer skill level.

Changes have been made to the installation wizard as the 9-step one in the 2009 version has been discarded and replaced with an easier one for performing the basic configuration. Also, the developer has taken into consideration the launch of the new Windows this year and adapted the suite for Windows 7. However, given that this is a beta release, not all work has been done and some glitches are likely to pop up.

The launch of the first beta for BitDefender Total Security 2010 follows Kaspersky's release of Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 beta back in April. So the race for the best antivirus has already begun. And judging by the big AntiMalware guns the current competitors sport, we're going to see fierce rivalry.
