BitDefender Mobile Security for Android Updated with Anti-Theft Feature

The free security software solution for Android devices coming from BitDefender's labs has just been updated with new features and bug fixes.

Although the application is still in beta, BitDefender Mobile Security is a lightweight solution for Android devices focused on energy efficiency, which tries to provide users with a high number of security functions.

According to the developers, the application is aiming towards low power consumption, while keeping a high level of protection.

BitDefender Mobile Security 1.1.183 has two new major features that are meant to protect users' data even if their phone is lost or stolen.

The latest version of the security application introduced the following changes:

- Added Anti-Theft functionalities through https://my.bitdefender.com;
- Added SD Card Scanning both on-demand and on-mount;
- Even more performance tweaks;
- Small typos in the AntiTheft module;
- .183 fixes a crash reported in a few isolated scenarios.

The new anti-theft function allows users to easily track where their device is and to remotely wipe it when needed, while the SD Card scanning feature helps to protect against uploading malware.

“The Android platform’s popularity with developers and users makes it a prime target both for thieves looking to steal devices, and for those wanting to exploit it through malware and scams,” said Alexandru Balan, Senior Product Manager at Bitdefender.

Besides the two new features introduced recently, Bitdefender Mobile Security BETA offers Android users a smart antivirus and web security solution.

Thanks to the company's latest technology that uses in-the-cloud scanning, the application can detect even the latest threats without putting a strain on the battery.

In addition, the application provides information about billable services and applications' requirements for access to Internet or private user data.

Bitdefender Mobile Security BETA is now available as a free download from Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 2.0 or higher.
