The owners at Roots Bistro in Houston have been forced to remove a billboard once faced with social media backlash.

The eatery has decided to promote its beer by referencing domestic violence through a joke that nobody finds funny, especially victims of abuse.

"Beer should be like violence: domestic," their ad reads.

A photo of the outdoor sign on the Roots Bistro Facebook page has garnered discontent from users and stirred up bad publicity for the diner on several other social networking sites.

The Houston Press clarifies that a rep for Roots, using the name Kenneth has since apologized and admitted to the mistake.

However, he mentions choosing the tagline after an employee has read it on another restaurant sign, which still doesn't make it OK.

"Another business had posted it. Obviously no one here would condone any type of violence, domestic or otherwise," Kenneth writes.
