Biostar is one of those companies that have decided to partner with both NVIDIA and ATI, consequently providing its customers with a wider product portfolio, including solutions from both chip makers. However, recently, the Taiwanese company has been showing more love to AMD, as it just launched its version of AMD's new RV790-based graphics accelerator, the Radeon HD 4890. As far as the company's NVIDIA-based
portfolio goes, you will probably have to wait a while until you see even the first GT200-series card, let alone the new GTX 275.
The new Biostar Radeon HD 4890 is based on AMD's reference design, so you should expect a factory-overclocked card with a custom cooling solution. However, the Radeon HD 4890 is AMD's fastest single-GPU offering currently available on the market, so even a reference design of the card should provide you with the performance required to run the latest gaming applications at very high resolutions.
Biostar's HD 4890 comes with a GPU core speed of 850MHz, while the 1028MB, 256-bit GDDR5 memory is clocked at an impressive 3900MHz. The card has been designed with support for PCI-Express x16 2.0 interface and comes with S-Video and Dual-DVI connectivity. With support for a maximum screen resolution of 2560 by 1600, the new Biostar Radeon graphics accelerator is also featured with ATI's renowned technologies, including CrossFireX, which will enable computer enthusiasts to further boost the performance of their desktop rig by adding a new Radeon HD 4890 card.
Unfortunately we have no details on the pricing of Biostar's new card but, given the overall specifications and features, it will likely sell for about $250 or less, depending on the deal that Biostar has made with AMD. Performance wise, this card is designed for the mainstream and high-performance market, a segment where it has to compete with NVIDIA's latest 55nm GT200-based GeForce GTX275.
