The mainboard should make for some really good media systems and HTPCs

When you see the term “Hi-Fi” in the name of a motherboard, you might be tempted to think of wireless communications, given the similarity with Wi-Fi. That's not what it stands for though.

Admittedly, those who know their way around building a PC from different parts probably know what Hi-Fi means from experience.

Essentially, it is a shortened from for High-Fidelity Audio and the moniker that certain mainboard makers choose to slap on their product labels and boxes.

Biostar has just applied it to the new Hi-Fi Z97Z7 Motherboard, which has such assets as Golden Plated Audio Connectors, 8 Phase Power Design, Super Conductive Heat sinks and, of course, Hi-Fi technology.

Super Rapid Debug3, Super Durable Ferrite Chokes, Super Durable Box Headers, and Super Durable Solid Capacitors are also among the assets.

As for the core specs, here are the most important ones: one PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, an M.2 slot (wired through PCI Express, marvelously enough, meaning 1.8 GB/s performance or even better), four DDR3 DIMM memory slots, Gigabit Ethernet, an HDMI 4K output, and DVI.

Finally, LGA 1150 CPUs from Intel are supported, including the Haswell line.

Sadly, the press release, short as it was, did not contain pricing or availability information for this ATX form factor Hi-Fi motherboard.
