It would negatively impact the story of the new game

Players might be interested in knowing which characters return to the gamer's side in Mass Effect 3 but the developers at BioWare are only willing to drop hints before the official launch date in order to keep the story as unspoiled as possible.

[ADMARk=1]Speaking on the latest episode of the BioWare Pulse show Casey Hudson, who is the overall producer in charge of the Mass Effect series, has said, “People wanna know, ‘show me my permanent roster of squad members, show me my roster of love interests'. But of course, that is so much a part of telling the story.”

He added, “That’s why we don’t wanna say, ‘yep, here’s all the characters that are permanent squad members,’ because first of all, it doesn’t make sense in a war story. It’s not true to the game. Some characters you might get, some character might die, and the discovery of how that’s all gonna work is so much a part of the story that we don’t wanna spoil it.”

Hudson says that Mass Effect 3 will be a war story through and through, which means that the collection and the exploration aspect of the first two titles in the series will be less present and that the possibility of loss is a constant companion.

Mass Effect 3 starts with the Reapers, mechanical exterminators of biological life, invading Earth and Commander Shepard pressed back into active service in order to go out in the Galaxy and recruit the powerful allies needed to beat them back.

A lot of the plot points that have been started in the first two Mass Effect games will be brought together for the grand finale of the current story arc.

The new game was initially set for the fall of this year but since then BioWare and Electronic Arts have settled for releasing it on March 6, 2012 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
