Game will offer three sides, familiar strategy mechanics

The VGA ceremony and trailer bonanza has confirmed what many gamers already suspected, that BioWare Victory is working on a new Command & Conquer strategy game, called Generals 2, which will be launched during 2013.

The plot of the game seems to suggest the same ironic and self-aware tone that the original embraced, with world leaders killed in a terror attack just as they were ready to sign a treaty ending world war.

Now Generals once again assume control and the player can choose to fight for one of the three factions both in a single player campaign and in multiplayer, both cooperatively and competitively.

Generals 2 will use the Frostbite 2 game engine created by DICE.

Doctor Ray Muzyka, who is the general manager at the EA BioWare label, stated, “We're bringing BioWare's vision for emotionally engaging gameplay and great attention to quality to the strategy genre and the Command & Conquer franchise.”

Jon Van Caneghem, who is the executive producer working on Generals 2, added, “For the last eight years, Command & Conquer fans have been begging for a return to the Generals universe. With Generals 2, we are bringing the Command & Conquer franchise back to its roots, blending strategic gameplay with fast-paced action - all set in visually stunning theaters of war powered by Frostbite 2.”

The first Generals was well balanced and blended traditional mechanics, like resource collection and base building, with some unusual takes on terrorist tactics and on superweapon development and deployment.

The new game promises to keep the same irreverent attitude when it comes to current events while updating the weapons and upping the strategy quotient.

The developer at BioWare Victory has confirmed that Generals 2 will be released on the PC but the exact date is still very much up in the air.
