Despite having survived the events of the first two Mass Effect games, including some pretty serious trauma generating sequences, the developers at BioWare believe that in the third game in the series the character will show the depth of his character.

Speaking as part of the latest installment of the BioWare Pulse program Mac Walters, who is the leading writer working on the Mass Effect 3 game, stated, “One of the things we wanted to do in Mass Effect 3 was deepen Shepard as a character, so you really get to express what your Shepard is feeling and going through, throughout the war.”

He added, “We wanted to take that next step with the story telling. Yeah, it’s a war, yeah it’s got giant robots we get to shoot in the face, but there is a human side to the story. You are role-playing, and you are role-playing as a human. Why shouldn’t that human have an emotional component throughout the game?”

The developer also says that the depth of character will also influence the length of the single player experience because the development team needs time in order to show off the feelings of Commander Shepard and his band of followers.

BioWare has been saying that Mass Effect 3 will wrap up all the loose ends from the previous two games while also introducing some new twists and the game universe will be much bigger than those gamers have already seen.

The game will follow Commander Shepard as he travels the galaxy in order to find the allies, both factions and individuals, who are able to help in the effort of repealing the Reaper assault on Earth.

Mass Effect 3 was initially set to be launched in the fall of 2011 but BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts have pushed it back to March of this year, when it will be available on the PlayStation 3, the PC and the Xbox 360.
