Video game developer BioWare has announced that it is getting ready to launch the 1.4 update for its MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, which will allow gamers to access a new tier of operations and will also allow them to play through the new Terror from Beyond content.

The official description reads: “Terror from Beyond is a new Operation that takes us to Asation, a remote planet in the Gree Enclave. Asation is a swampy, wetland world that was terraformed by the Gree thousands of years ago. It is not a Gree homeworld, but it does house some incredible technology assembled long ago by the Gree crafter caste.”

The new core enemies of The Old Republic, the Dread Masters, have opened up the Hypergate on Asation and players will have to band together in order to cut their way through the new varied enemies and then defeat the agents of the Dread Masters themselves before closing down the device.

Terror from Beyond has five boss encounters and BioWare says that their scale dwarfs everything else that gamers have seen previously in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The new operation is part of a raft of content that is being added to the Electronic Arts published MMO in order to stop the exodus of players and convince those who have stood on the sidelines to jump in.

During the fall Star Wars: The Old Republic is set to move to a free-to-play business model, designed to increase the number of players engaged with the game and create a framework that can allow the experience to evolve in the long term.

Those who pay subscriptions for the MMO will get a number of advantages and access to some exclusive items while free-to-play gamers can access any part of the game without paying, but they will have some limitation linked to characters and guilds.
