Developer BioWare says that the entire core story of its upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition is designed to focus on the conflict between the Chantry, the Templars and the Mages, with a deeper exploration of the reasons that they use to justify their actions.

David Gaider, the leading writer working on the title, tells Game Informer that the first two games in the franchise served to show players the nature of all involved parties and that both have clear and solid arguments for their positions.

When Inquisition starts, the developer says, "Basically, you have a situation where the Templars are hunting mages in the streets. That’s not everything that Inquisition is about, but that’s where it begins. The world’s kind of falling apart."

The Dragon Age: Asunder book offers more details on the state of conflict that is engulfing even the most stable of states, like Orlais, and Gaider says players will quickly experience what the volatile situations can lead to.

Gamers will be the Inquisition and that role gives them immense power, even if it cannot be manifested too soon in the game.

Gaider adds, "We’ve always wanted to ask the question, ‘what if you could found the Jedi Order instead of becoming a Jedi?’ If going to start something, what would it be? What would you make that you would want to be a part of?"

The world of Dragon Age: Inquisition also features a tear in the Fade through which demons are coming into the real world and gamers will also have to work with opposing factions to try and close it down.

The new title is expected to be launched on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and the PC in the fall of next year.

Until then, fans will be able to play the mobile-only, battle-focused Heroes of Dragon Age before the end of 2013.
