The franchise is designed to spawn more titles and other media properties

BioWare might have ended the story line of the Mass Effect franchise after three core video games, but it seems that the studio does not have similar plans for Dragon Age.

Mark Darrah, the executive producer working on the title, tells Gamespot that, “We’ve always really looked at Dragon Age as the story of a world as opposed to the story of a character. That’s one of the reasons why we change characters between games. This isn’t the wrap-up of a trilogy.”

The three titles in the franchise use different protagonists and BioWare says that this allows the team to explore new ideas and concepts while keeping the experience fresh for fans in the long term.

Darrah says that the company does have a long-term story arc that it is exploring, but that the end of Inquisition will not close any of the main themes of the series.

The new Dragon Age allows gamers to become a powerful Inquisitor who has a leadership role as the world tries to shut down a tear in the Fade, while also dealing with the conflict introduced by the end of the previous title in the series.

The game will be launched on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and the PC on October 7.
