The new resources can power some impressive abilities

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a video game experience focused on stories and characters, but the main gameplay mechanics is combat against a range of enemies, and the development team at BioWare says that the new Focus feature will fundamentally change how gamers approach each engagement.

Daniel Kading, a developer working on the title, is quoted by official site as saying that, “Focus is given to all party members when any of them damage a foe: this allows lower-damage characters like defensive warriors to fulfill their role while still accumulating focus. After enough is earned, a character can use an ability that costs focus. That character's focus is then spent, but not the focus of their allies, who can still use it for their own abilities.”

Mike Laidlaw adds that gamers will need to think about the long-term evolution of their party and about the ways Focus abilities can be used to change the situation when things go back or a particularly powerful foe appears on the field.

BioWare’s combat team has made all focus abilities very powerful, but the resource only increases at a slow pace and that means every player will need to make a decision about short- versus long-term gains.

The replayability of Dragon Age: Inquisition will also be enhanced by an upgraded role for all the specialization abilities that are available for a character class.

Mike Laidlaw states, “specializations are earned, not granted for free. You will be able to preview all the specialization abilities available to you before you make a choice of which path you want to follow. It's worth noting that unlike in the previous DA games, we've decided to bulk out the specializations more.”

Focus was one of the elements of Dragon Age: Inquisition that was part of the gameplay videos shown during both E3 and Gamescom and the company says that more details will be offered in the coming weeks.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be out on November 18 on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and last-gen consoles.

The game will take gamers across the length of Thedas as they try to close down a breach in the Veil, which is allowing demons from the Fade to invade the world of the living.

Recently, BioWare has revealed that a mysterious new enemy called The Elder One is behind the catastrophe and players will need to gather as many allies as possible before facing him.
