Developer BioWare has confirmed that players who will be picking up the PlayStation 3 edition of Mass Effect 2 will be able to get the choices linked to the first video game in the series via an interactive comic book that is unique to the game.

The comic is called Mass Effect Genesis and the idea is to show gamers who have not played the first game the most important events and create a suitable background and then present them with the most important choices others have faced during actual gameplay on the PC and the Xbox 360.

The comic will be inserted exactly after the end of the first sequence of Mass Effect 2 in order to make sense for player in the context of the game, and there will be six choices that they will be required to make, having to do with situations like the fate of the Rachni queen or the ultimate fate of the Council.

The PlayStation 3 gamer will also need to choose his romantic options for the first game, which will have repercussions in the second installment.

The PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 will include all the downloadable content that BioWare has launched for the game, including the new Hammerhead vehicle, and they will be tied to the Cerberus Network, suggesting that they will be only free for those who get the game new.

BioWare is further saying that the game engine has been overhauled to make it look and work better on the Sony platform.

The PlayStation 3 edition of Mass Effect will be released on January 18 in North America and three days later on European markets.

The platform will get Mass Effect 3, the latest game in the series, later during 2011, at the same time as the PC and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
