Although not made official yet, Feral Interactive, a leading Macintosh computer games publisher, confirmed at Macworld that the immensely popular FPS was hitting Apple computers. The first hints that Bioshock was becoming a Mac title were provided by Feral staffers wearing T-shirts stamped with the iconic Big Daddy.

“Hoping that this was not some kind of terrible wardrobe malfunction, I talked to a couple of Feral’s representatives, who confirmed the dystopic adventure first-person shooter is coming to Mac,” Macworld.com's Chris Holt writes.

“Mac gamers can look forward to playing through the underwater city of Rapture, full of homicidal gene splicers, creepy little girls, ghosts, and one doozy of a story arc,” the same report notes.

BioShock is a “genetically enhanced” first-person shooter that lets players turn everything they can get their hands on into a weapon, biologically modify their character’s body with plasmids, hack devices and systems, upgrade weapons, or develop new types of ammunition, etc.

As a castaway in Rapture, an underwater Utopia torn apart by civil war, the player is caught between genetically modified “splicers” and deadly security systems. According to the game's makers, no encounter ever plays out the same – player progress and gameplay style affects the outcome of the game.

While Mac requirements are a long way from being confirmed (since the Mac port hasn't even been announced officially), PC requirements should provide a clue as to what kind of hardware you should pack when the game hits the shelves this year.

Operating Systems include both Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista; CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz Single Core processor (minimum); RAM: 1GB (minimum); Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550); Sound Card: 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card; 8GB free hard-disk space. Recommended specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of ram, and a 512MB graphics card.

BioShock is rated M for Mature. The game is expected to hit Macs in the first half of 2009, according to the above-mentioned source. See more on BioShock over at 2K Games' website.
