The new Burial at Sea downloadable content for BioShock Infinite is set to focus on Elizabeth and make her a playable character and the team at Irrational Games says that her tears will be an important part of the new gameplay mechanics.

Amanda Jeffrey, a leading developer on the DLC with Ken Levine, tells IGN that, “Elizabeth and her tear abilities are not necessarily a ‘win button.’ She has an understanding of this universe and the various universes that she can visit, and she knows, once again, constants and variables.”

Players will be able to avoid many combat encounters using them and the team is making sure that all the areas of the game that she changes will be important but not crucial to the ending of Burial at Sea.

The first part of the DLC will mix sections that have Booker and Elizabeth as the main characters, but the second part will be devoted to her exclusively.

Ken Levine, the leader of Irrational Games, adds, “with Elizabeth, by the time you get to the second part of Burial at Sea, we felt that we had developed her enough that actually an interesting thing to do was to merge the player with her.”

The new content takes players back to Rapture and the team working on it has already said that gamers will be able to explore the underwater city before it was destroyed from the inside.

A number of familiar characters from the first BioShock will also make appearances, but Irrational has not yet named any names.

BioShock Infinite already has one piece of DLC out, called Clash in the Clouds.

The first part of Burial at Sea will be out before the end of 2013 and the second section will probably be delivered in the first few months of 2014.
