BioShock Infinite, the narrative driven shooter from developer Irrational Games and publisher 2K Games, is taking over the United Kingdom video game chart for the week that ended on March 30, showing off that critical quality can be paired with solid launch sales.

The game, which has a full review on Softpedia, takes players to the flying city of Columbia in order to rescue a girl called Elizabeth and the experience manages to mix a very good story with solid shooter gameplay mechanics.

Tomb Raider, the Lara Croft powered adventure from Eidos and Square Enix, is in second place, the same position where it sat last week, which might mean solid long-term sales for the game.

Gears of War: Judgment, the third-person shooter from People Can Fly and Epic Games, has only managed to sit at the top of the United Kingdom chart for just one week and is now moving down, settling in third for the moment, according to UKIE.

FIFA 13, the football simulation from EA Sports, seems to be glued to fourth place, the best situated older title of the top ten, a signal of how much of a phenomenon the title is in the home of the sport.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 from Nintendo is a new entry that has managed to get fifth place during its first week, while Army of Two: Devil’s Cartel, a cooperatively focused shooter, has only managed to take sixth.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the first-person shooter from Treyarch and Activision, has managed to gain three places, reaching seventh, while Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 confirms its niche status by launching in eight.

Assassin’s Creed III also makes a return to the top ten in ninth and Crysis 3 closes down the UK chart.

Far Cry 3, SimCity, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct and the new God of War are out for the week.
