BioShock Infinite, the title from developer Irrational Games and publisher 2K , is the bestselling title for the month of March 2013 on the United States market, performing better than Tomb Raider, the series reboot from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix.

The data comes from the NPD Group and is quoted by GamesIndustry.biz and includes only physical sales made via retail stores.

The last place on the podium goes to Gears of War: Judgment, the prequel created by People Can Fly and Epic Games.

The rest of the top ten is made up of:

God of War: Ascension - PS3 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - PC, PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360 Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon - 3DS MLB 13: The Show - PS3, Vita NBA 2K13 - PC, PS3, PSP, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 The Walking Dead: Survival instinct - PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360 Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 - PS3, X360

The value of software sales increased when compared to the same month in 2012, the first time this has happened since November 2011.

The NPD Group believes that the move is linked to the solid initial sales of the top two video games in the chart, BioShock Infinite and Tomb Raider.

Reports from analysts have suggested that both Gears of War: Judgment and God of War: Ascension have failed to meet expectations and are under the sales averages posted by their franchises.

The NPD Group is no longer offering actual sales numbers for the products it is tracking, but analysts expect BioShock Infinite sales to reach 3 million units one month after launch.

Video game sales are expected to continue their decline in the coming months, with a revival only set to take place once the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox 720 from Microsoft are launched in the fall.
