2K Boston files new job listings

There are certainly a lot of very creative development studios in the gaming industry today. But only a few of them have truly proven that time and time again by releasing new and interesting properties or franchises.

One such studio is 2K Boston, formerly known as Irrational Games, which is responsible for properties like System Shock, X-Com or the more recent BioShock, a spiritual successor for the first title.

The studio is now working on a big unannounced project, as the development for BioShock 2 is handled by 2K Marin alongside a few other developers. We've already heard the leader of the Boston studio, Ken Levine, talk about the scope and the ambition regarding this new project and how it would make a lot of people raise their eyebrows.

Now, it seems that the company has opened up some new job listings, which might reveal a few more interesting things about the project or projects that it currently has underway. The studio is looking for a principal combat designer, a multiplayer level designer and a level designer in order to complete its team.

All of these listings reveal that the candidates will be working on the “big project,” which is “an unannounced shooter.” This will certainly fuel speculation about what type of property 2K Boston will continue to develop or whether or not it will deliver a completely new one to its owner, Take Two Interactive.

From a new X-COM shooter, much in the spirit of X-COM: Enforcer, to a new follow-up for SWAT 4, nothing can be certain at the moment. The only way to know though is by getting a job at the company, as Levine mentioned a few months ago: “If somebody wanted to know what was going on at 2K Boston right now, there's only one way: apply for a job with us.” He then revealed that the studio “still needs more, many more people to come and get involved in our Next Big Thing.”

Hopefully the company will deliver a great experience, no matter what the property in question will be, and this will have the same level of quality we have grown accustomed to.
