The single player piece of downloadable content for BioShock 2 has been launched on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, with the PC release to follow at a later date. It is called Protector Trials and allows players to fill in the shoes of a Big Daddy again. He is tasked to defend his Little Sister against hordes of Splicers who trying to steal the precious ADAM she is gathering from various dead Rapture residents.

The DLC is comprised of six new maps with three difficulty levels that are meant to ease in newcomers, but also to give BioShock 2 veterans a real challenge. The locations are inspired from environments that are found in the story campaign of the game. The package will also unlock new videos, concept art and other items that have not been released anywhere else until today. In addition to all this, Protector Trials will add seven new Achievements or Trophies the BioShock 2, depending on the players' platform of choice.

This small expansion pack is priced at 400 Microsoft Points in the Xbox Live Marketplace or 5 dollars on the PlayStation Network. Protector Trials is designed to expand upon the original's gameplay, forcing players to experiment new combinations of plasmids and weapons to survive and keep their Little Sister alive.

2K Marin, BioShock 2's developer, is also working on the controversial reboot of the XCOM series. The studio's take-on the popular PC strategy franchise fundamentally changes the focus of the title, as it will be a first person shooter that will task players to find and hunt down aliens invading the earth. The action takes place in the 1950s and will still maintain some tactical elements, allowing the research and development of new weapons to fight the extraterrestrial threat. XCOM is set to arrive in 2011 for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.
