Fans of BioShock franchise will be pleased to know that publisher 2K Games has made some changes and has added some long-awaited improvements to the second installment in the series.

According to the publisher, BioShock 2 will now be available for purchase via Steam, along with all available multiplayer downloadable content, as well as the single-player “Protector Trials” DLC, for $19.99 / €19.99.

Due to the closure of the Games For Windows LIVE service marketplace several weeks ago, BioShock 2 has decided to bring the game to a much larger audience.

2K Games has confirmed that it is committed to supporting BioShock 2 on PC and with the help of Digital Extremes, it has also brought in some exciting new improvements.

The most important seems to be support for controller, but other new features include Steam achievements and Big Picture mode compatibility.

2K Games also states that “matchmaking is easier than ever now, allowing you to search for “any game,” as opposed to having to select your game mode. Leveling up is also quicker and easier, as we’ve fine-tuned the multiplayer experience to be better than ever.”

Now, those who already own BioShock 2 on Steam via different digital partners will receive Minerva’s Den, the single-player story-driven DLC that also packs some new weapons, enemies, tonics and plasmids.

In addition, those who own the retail version purchased from any authorized third-party reseller will be able to activate their BioShock 2 title using the same game activation key received when they purchased it.

Upon activation, they will receive the BioShock 2 multiplayer and Protector Trials DLC, as well as Minerva’s Den single-player add-on.

Keep in mind though that those who don’t own BioShock 2 yet will still have to pay for the DLCs separately. For more info on the deal, check out the game’s store page on Steam.
