On Monday, Redmond-based software giant Microsoft announced the launch of a new application for mobile phones, the Bing for Mobile Android App, which comes to handsets available on Verizon Wireless' airwaves. According to Microsoft, the new software solution is meant to offer users a series of local, entertainment, image and voice search features.

Currently available for download for all Android users at Verizon, the application is offered for free, and should soon come pre-loaded on new Android devices at the wireless carrier.

“The app homepage features the Bing image of the day, complete with clickable hotspots that you can explore and discover related trivia. Did you miss one of the latest images? Don’t worry; you can still swipe through up to 7 days’ worth of Bing images,” a recent post on Bing Community announced.

Some of the main features of the application include: - Bing Daily Homepage Image: A streamlined homepage design that features the Bing daily image with hot spots. - Map Your Way: Quickly access maps, driving directions and traffic information so you can find where you are and get where you are going. It also includes an auto-locate feature to show your current location. People can also search local business listing near them from the map. - Favorites: Find a business listing you like? Save it in ‘Favorites’ so you can retrieve them and chart them on a map when needed. - Instant Answers: Quick and relevant answers for movies, stocks quotes, flight status and local business listing without hopping to multiple links.

Some other capabilities of the solution include a search feature that packs endless scrolling results, as well as voice search capabilities, which work great in the new Android application for searches that include map locations and more.

“This works especially well when looking for “Instant answers” which give you quick and relevant answers for things like movies, stock quotes, flight status and local listings,” the said blog post continues.

Bing for Mobile Android App comes with other capabilities too, and those Verizon Wireless customers interested in giving it a try should head over to the Android Market on their devices, download and install it.
