The Translator application for Windows Phone platform was launched back in April, but it was only supported by first- and second-generation WP-based smartphones.

Developed by Bing, the application is supposed to translate street signs, posters, transit schedules, restaurant menus while on the go.

Bing Translator “combines Augmented Reality Translation, speech and text translation, word-of-the-day live tiles and a travel optimized offline mode,” developers claim.

All these features are now available to Windows Phone 8 users. Bing has just announced a new version of Translator that supports Windows Phone 8 platform is now available for download for free via Windows Phone store. Check it out here.

However, Bing mentions that “as a Windows Phone 8 user, you will also discover a new translator ‘lens’ whenever you launch your camera – allowing you to quickly access the camera mode translation functionality of the app.”
