Microsoft has added the OS to the list of supported platforms

Recently, Microsoft was said to have started pushing its Bing Rewards to the owners of Windows Phone handsets, and it seems that the company has already made all on the matter official.

A few days ago, the company removed the “coming soon” tag from Bing Rewards for mobile users, and also added Windows Phone 8.1 to the list of platforms officially supported in the program.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Bing Rewards was designed to provide users with credit for each search performed using Bing.

Only a limited number of points can be earned each day, but the credit remains there, and users can use it to redeem gifts from the site, such as Amazon.com gift cards, OneDrive extra storage, and more, as WPCentral explains.

What is interesting to note is the fact that Bing Rewards was previously available for the owners of Android and iOS devices, though it was not available on Windows Phone.

However, this has changed now, and those who chose to grab a Windows Phone handset and also have Windows Phone 8.1 (Developer Preview) installed on it can now officially enjoy Bing Rewards.

The one thing that remains to change, however, is the market availability of the program, as only those living in the United States and few other markets can now take advantage of it.

Bing Rewards was launched back in 2010 as one of Microsoft’s means to attract users to its search engine, yet it is still not available in many countries out there.

Owners of Windows Phone 8.1 devices will receive Bing Rewards points each and every time they use Cortana to perform searches on their handsets.

Those interested in learning more on the searches performed on their smartphones should head over to the Bing Rewards Dashboard settings, where they will find ‘Mobile Search’ under Rewards.

For the time being, it seems that Microsoft has decided to offer official support only for Windows Phone 8.1 devices, leaving owners of Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.8 handsets out of it.

However, only the latter will actually be completely left out of it, considering the fact that Microsoft plans on upgrading all WP8 smartphones to the newer Windows Phone 8.1 operating system version.

In the meantime, however, those of you interested in learning more info on Microsoft’s Bing Rewards program should head over to this page on their PC or mobile device.
