Ahead of schedule

Microsoft has discontinued the Bing Double Cashback promotion, pulling the plug on the marketing initiative a few days earlier than initially planned. Apparently, the reason for wrapping up early the promotion was the immense success that it enjoyed with customers. The Redmond company has only a limited amount of cashback set aside for the promotion, and it hit the limit three days ahead of plans.

According to a representative for an online retailer that contacted me, the Bing Cashback promotion generated record sales. So far, the Redmond company offered no official figures that would spell out the success of the Bing Double Cashback promotion. The software giant did, however, confirm that customers would no longer be able to enjoy double cashback returns for their purchases.

“Bing Cashback Our back-to-school promotion has come to a close, but you can continue to find great cashback deals every day. Check out our Daily Deals for our best offers,” a message posted on the Bing Cashback official Facebook page reads.

At the same time, Microsoft also updated the Bing FAQ. The question, “I no longer see double cashback amounts. When will you have double savings days again?” is answered with, “Our back to school double cashback promotion has ended for now, but we always have great cashback offers from all of our participating cashback merchants. Start all of your online shopping on bing.com for our amazing everyday cashback savings.”

For the Bing Double Cashback promotion, Microsoft matched the cashback amounts offered by online retailers, doubling the money that customers would get back for items purchased from participating shops through Bing Cashback. It now looks like consumers that have failed to hurry up and take advantage of the discounts and special offerings won’t be able to do so anymore.
