"Its (referring to al Qaeda) prince Sheikh Osama bin Laden, may God protect him, is still leading its jihad," Ayman al-Zawahri, the second in command in the terrorist organization, said in a interview posted on a site used by al Qaeda militants, confirming in this way that bin Laden is still alive.

"I call
on mujahideen to concentrate their attacks on Muslims' stolen oil, most of the revenues of which go to the enemies of Islam while most of what they leave is seized by the thieves who rule our countries," he also said.

According to Reuters, the material looked as if it had been taped somewhere in September, Zawahri talking about the re-election of the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and the legislative elections on September 18 from Afghanistan.

Since the beginning of the military operations, several rumors regarding his whereabouts have emerged, but none have been confirmed.

On October 29, 2004, the television network Al Jazeera broadcast a video material showing bin Laden addressing the US citizens and talking about the 9/11 events.

A month later, the Pakistani officials expressed their strong belief that bin Laden was somewhere around the Afghan-Pakistani border.

Being a physician by trade, it is assumed that al-Zawahiri serves as bin Laden's doctor for the kidney disorder he allegedly suffers from.
