Audiences loved it but the judges weren’t really that impressed

Dancing With the Stars is back for another season on ABC, its 18th so far and, true to form, it kicked off with a few spectacular performances – and some which, though not as spectacular, were still fan-favorites.

Billy Dee Williams’ fell in the latter category. The aging actor, probably best known to fans for his role as Lando Calrissian from the “Star Wars” film franchise, is partnered up with Emma Slater and, for their big dancefloor debut, they strove to really put the “star” in Dancing With the Stars.

That is to say, they made their Cha Cha into a “Star Wars”-themed number, complete with Stormtroopers, Princess Leia and R2D2.

The public, as you can see in the video above, absolutely loved it but the judges were far from convinced. In fact, their conclusion upon seeing Williams’ performance was that he was the most “relaxed” dancer ever to be on the show, which was not explainable neither by his old age nor by his health issues.

They all gave him a 5, which brought the pair to a 15 score out of a possible 30, and told Williams they expected him to do much better in his second week.

Useless to say, he is a fan-favorite, but there’s no guaranteeing that this will take him too far in such a tough competition. So, he needs to do better.
