Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins was involved in a minor incident the other day when, during a live performance in Florida, he simply fell to the ground. He did not trip on something or anything like that: he simply blacked out and went down, the Daily Mail says. The rocker himself confirmed this on his Twitter page, People informs.

‘Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan, known for his wild antics on stage, shocked fans after collapsing during a gig. The 43-year-old singer of the alternative rock band was belting out his band’s hit song Bullets For Butterfly Wings on stage in Tampa, Florida, when he blacked out. Fortunately he came round quickly with only a few in the audience at the Ritz Ybor club noticing anything amiss and most thinking the fall was part of the act,” the Mail writes.

Video of the incident was almost immediately posted on YouTube and similar websites, as is usually the case in such situations. Because the blackout lasted only a few short instances, which literally made it so that few fans in the crowd even got to notice it, many said that it was a stunt, an accusation Corgan himself is denying on Twitter. In fact, he says, he can’t even remember passing out – but he’s glad he managed to bounce back so quickly to prevent fans from seeing it.

“And for those that saw me fall last night during Bullet, that wasn’t a stage move or clumsiness, that was me blacking out and wiping out. I have no memory of falling against the drum riser and my guitar cabinet, but I can tell you I’ve got quite a good bruise + am moving slow,” Corgan tweeted. More details on his condition and whether this is something more serious than one might be tempted to believe are not available right now.

Below is a video of the rocker collapsing to the floor in the middle of the performance. As one can easily see, he almost instantly gets up and resumes playing. Were it not for his tweets and promise that he did not pull a stunt, it’s easy for one to believe he tripped or did it on purpose.
