Billy Bob Thornton was once married to the most beautiful and famous woman in showbiz, Angelina Jolie. Despite their fiery romance, their divorce was anything but “nasty,” he says in a recent interview with Anderson Cooper.

Fans must already know that Thornton has a new book out, “The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts,” which comes with a foreword from none other than Angelina herself.

As such, it's no wonder why Anderson Cooper wanted to know whether things aren't a bit “weird” between them now, after the divorce.

“Absolutely we're friends. We've always been friends,” Billy Bob says.

That segment of the interview is below, embedded at the end of the article.

“See, in the press, ladies and gentlemen, sometimes if you get a divorce everyone assumes it was nasty and it's not always,” he went on to say.

His and Angelina's case was like that: they got divorced because things weren't working out for them anymore, but they were and would always remain good friends.

“It's not that I haven't had a couple of nasty ones, but this was not one of them,” Billy Bob added.

This isn't the first time that Angelina's name comes up in the promo tour for the book, as we also noted on a separate occasion.

Asked about the reasons his marriage to Jolie went bust, Billy Bob explained they simply wanted different things in life, adding that he was the one to pull the plug on it.

He felt as if he wasn't “good enough for her” and, at the same time, not as committed to the relationship as she was, so the break up came almost naturally.

Billy Bob also said he was happy for Angelina and Brad, adding that he would attend their wedding if they asked him to.

“We had a great time together. We had a great marriage and I chickened out because I didn’t feel good enough. That’s all that happened. It was no big deal, we never hated each other,” he stated.
