Jennifer Aniston, now promoting a new romantic comedy, has come under serious fire from Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly for saying that women don’t need a man to become mothers.

In the flick, called “The Switch,” Aniston portrays a 40something woman who decides to have a baby even though she is neither married nor in a relationship, which is certainly not something that out of the ordinary.

The same thing can easily happen in real life, Aniston said at the time, drawing the ire of O’Reilly who believes, as Entertainment Weekly and the video below can confirm, that the star is sending the wrong message.

It’s certainly not unheard of for women to be single mothers, but it’s not “optimal” for them to choose to have a baby without a father, the Fox News personality says.

By saying that women simply don’t need a man and a father for their babies, Aniston is telling young girls having a relationship before becoming pregnant is not something they should aspire to, O’Reilly says.

In a context in which there is a surge in the number of single mothers in the US, Aniston’s comments only come to pour oil (or any other type of flammable liquid) over a fire that is already burning bright.

Moreover, the fact that there is a slight possibility she doesn’t even mean it and that she’s only saying it to make her character in the film more believable, does nothing to assuage O’Reilly in his attack.

“She’s throwing a message out to 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds that, ‘Hey you don’t need a guy. You don’t need a dad.’ That’s destructive to our society,” O’Reilly says on his show, as the video at the end of this article will confirm.

Aniston’s exact words on the matter were, “Women are realizing more and more that you don’t have to settle, they don’t have to fiddle with a man to have that child.”

Should she feel slighted by his comments or upset that he took the matter on air, O’Reilly invites Aniston on his show to defend herself. So far, she’s not responded in any way to his provocation.

Chances are she never will either. To check out what other things O’Reilly had to say about the former “Friends” star, see the video below. Enjoy.
