Microsoft's founder and one of the world's leading philanthropists Bill Gates wrote an opinion article for China's People's Daily, the newspaper belonging to the Communist Party, urging local authorities to do more to help the poor.

Gates said that everyone living in the country should join forces and help those in need, as philanthropy in China continues to be one of the trends that aren't catching on.

“China has many successful entrepreneurs and business people,” he explained. “I hope that more people of insight will put their talents to work to improve the lives of poor people in China and around the world.”

According to a report published by Reuters, the People's Daily is “required reading” for government and party officials in the country, so Bill Gates' editorial might be exactly what the Chinese authorities needed to speed up efforts to help those living in poverty.

Bill Gates is one of the top philanthropists across the world, as he spends part of his time to help eradicate a number of diseases in poor African countries, as part of the charity he founded with his wife Melinda.

At the same time, Gates is also spending millions of dollars every year to support the campaigns launched by the Bill and Melinda Foundation, trying to bring critical vaccines in a number of countries across the world.
